Every year since we’ve bought the house we’ve bought tomatoes at Steins and / or Loews. The very first year we used really good dirt mixed with Miracle Grow that came in a big bag. That’s the summer it was super hot and dry and we kept the sprinkler going all the time since the birds and wildlife needed a good drink. The tomatoes we had were the Sweet 100’s, which are the little red ones on the towel. Last year I couldn’t hardly find any and ended up with another kind that were called Early Girls. The Sweet 100’s have kept producing until November, and if we lived somewhere warmer, I’d think they’d keep on growing forever. It’s the cold and frost, and then they are done with. The yellow tomatoes ended up being some huge wild vines that we had to string up onto two trellis’ just to keep them under control. They actually have cages underneath to support them, but they are just buried underneath all that foliage. The vines are at least six feet off the ground that are tied to the trellis’. The dog is still not sure about those tomato plants, and when we didn’t have them strung up yet, he’d be weird about walking past them on the little bit of sidewalk that wasn’t covered with leaves. So all of that is just two plants we planted around Memorial Day weekend. {I think it was three plants, and Jolynn says just two.}
